Halls of Horror Attraction Review

Gwen

Halls Of Horror

Web address: http://www.hallsofhorror.net

Location: Palmerton, PA (Carbon County)

Full body immersion into the depths of horror

The Nuts and Bolts:

Halls of Horror is one main attraction. Parking is free on the street and there seemed to be plenty of spaces. Entry is $15 to go through the haunt or $25 to upgrade to the Blood Experience. The blood experience is what it sounds like, bloody, messy, and intense! No matter which experience you choose, you will sign a release and the actors WILL touch you. The Blood Experience offers more extreme levels of actor interaction with the guests.

How To Survive The 80’s: Horror Edition

Gwen

For those of you who know me, you know that I LOVE 80s horror. It was a time when horror comedies, slashers, final girls, gore, and monster make-up dominated the screen. Arguably this decade provided us with some of the most memorable and formidable monsters. Please enjoy the following infographic which documents some great monsters of 80s horror / sci-fi as well as useful tips on how to survive their attacks. However, even though he scared the bejeezus out of me as a child I cannot condone bagging E.T. and turning him over to the Feds. It would be like selling Gizmo on the illegal animal trade circuit and that’s just cruel.

The fine folks over at Predator Helmets Direct whipped up this helpful infographic for all you would be survivors. Be sure to hit them up on Twitter and Facebook!

The Waldorf Estate of Fear Attraction Review

Gwen

The Waldorf Estate of Fear

Web address: http://www.waldorfestateoffear.com/index.html

Location: Lehighton, PA (Carbon County)

A haunt for the true horror lover.

The Nuts and Bolts:

This is a smaller haunt located near Country Junction in Carbon County, PA. It has been most known for its Waldorf Hotel haunt and has expanded in recent years and continues to grow and upgrade over time. The price for all three attractions is $35 which is reasonable, although you do not have to partake in every attraction. The haunt is open every Friday and Saturday through October 31st from 7pm. – 11pm. Parking is free, signage leading up to the haunt is good, and the GPS directions on the website are accurate. There is a small midway offering fair-type food and drinks as well as a small area selling t-shirts. Generally speaking this is a pretty family friendly haunt (not over the top, i.e. language, gore). It’s appropriate for most ages from about 11 up. And for the faint of heart, the actors do not touch you.

Point Counterpoint: Are Zombies Good Horror Monsters? (No)

Gwen

Note: You’ve read Elizabeth’s argument why zombies are excellent horror monsters, now read Gwen’s counter argument that zombies are horrible horror monsters.

In the spirit of true democracy, my cohorts have allowed me this space during our illustrious “Zombie Week” to explain my utter distaste for all that is “zombie.” I know I might lose a few of you here, but I hope we can all just agree to disagree. Without crushing the hearts of all those out there on the zombie apocalypse bandwagon, I finally can shout it from the mountain that I just don’t find zombies all that scary.

I feel like an addict stuck on step five, confessing my horror wrongdoings. Standing here before you, I confess that I don’t watch The Walking Dead, I avoid Halloween haunts that have zombie themes, and I never feel compelled to rent a zombie flick. (Yes this is sacrilege coming from the state that is home to most Romero films.) I hope you can indulge me by reading the reasons that I don’t like zombies. Selfishly, I hope that those of you who agree with me, might just share this article in solidarity and discuss it with your friends.

The Reaper’s Revenge Attraction Review

Gwen

Web Address: http://reapersrevenge.net/

Location: Scranton, PA (Lackawanna County)

Reaper’s Revenge shocks ALL your senses!

Grade: A+

The Nuts and Bolts:

This haunt is settled on about 60 acres of land and all I can say is that they adequately use every single inch. The Reaper’s Revenge experience incorporates four amazing haunts for one reasonable price. (As of October 2015 it’s $35) There is a small fee for parking; however it is completely worth it when you consider how many haunts you get for the price. Make sure you take down the directions from the website as some GPS don’t initially recognize the GPS address given.

The actors in this haunt can touch you. If you do not wish to be touched they offer an option for a glow in the dark necklace so the actors know not to touch you. Even though the four events are continuous, there are always ways to exit early if you need to. Also of important note, there are porta-johns located at each Segway which is extremely helpful for all ages. As an educated guess, not including wait times, I enjoyed at least two hours of horrific fun.
