Knock Knock (2015)- Rape & Revenge?

KNOCK KNOCK: RAPE AND REVENGE?

Synopsis: While his wife and children are at the beach, Evan (Keanu Reeves) opens the door late at night to find two apparently stranded rain-drenched young women—Genesis (Lorenza Izzo) and Bel (Ana de Armas)—at his door. He lets them in, lets them dry their clothes, and calls a car for them. They successfully “seduce” him, however, which begins their sadistic weekend-long “game” with him.

Eli Roth’s Knock Knock has been receiving mostly dismal reviews, as well as a few more outraged assessments. Revenge Honey of The Horror Honeys launches an angry attack on the politics of the film, and she nails its more objectionable qualities—its racism and homophobia as well as the way it can certainly be viewed as making a mockery of child abuse. She writes that she considers the film “frontrunner for the worst film of 2015” and that it’s “downright disgusting.”[i]

I get how someone could feel that way about Knock Knock, but then horror films are supposed to push people’s buttons—and “downright disgusting” is a phrase that signals there’s probably something interesting going on.

Location: Lehighton, PA (Carbon County)

A haunt for the true horror lover.

The Nuts and Bolts:

This is a smaller haunt located near Country Junction in Carbon County, PA. It has been most known for its Waldorf Hotel haunt and has expanded in recent years and continues to grow and upgrade over time. The price for all three attractions is $35 which is reasonable, although you do not have to partake in every attraction. The haunt is open every Friday and Saturday through October 31^st from 7pm. – 11pm. Parking is free, signage leading up to the haunt is good, and the GPS directions on the website are accurate. There is a small midway offering fair-type food and drinks as well as a small area selling t-shirts. Generally speaking this is a pretty family friendly haunt (not over the top, i.e. language, gore). It’s appropriate for most ages from about 11 up. And for the faint of heart, the actors do not touch you.

THE INHABITANTS (2015)

I’ve been watching a fair number of low-budget, independent horror films of late, and the vast majority of them never make it to this site: either I stop watching or they’re too bad to review. The Inhabitants is an exception and I definitely recommend you rent it when it’s released on October 13.

It’s written and directed by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, whose previous credits include Dark Feed (2013), which they wrote and directed, and The Ward (2010), a John Carpenter film for which they wrote the screenplay.

One of the great things about The Inhabitants, aside from its undeniable creepiness, is its simplicity. It focuses unrelentingly on a couple, Jess (Elise Couture) and Dan (Michael Reed), who buy the March Carriage Bed and Breakfast Inn, intending to live out Jess’s dream of running a B&B. The attention of the film stays on the couple, resisting distractions, as stranger and stranger things start happening, and as the film drives toward a gruesome and chilling ending.

The Reaper’s Revenge Attraction Review

Reaper’s Revenge shocks ALL your senses!

Grade: A+

The Nuts and Bolts:

This haunt is settled on about 60 acres of land and all I can say is that they adequately use every single inch. The Reaper’s Revenge experience incorporates four amazing haunts for one reasonable price. (As of October 2015 it’s $35) There is a small fee for parking; however it is completely worth it when you consider how many haunts you get for the price. Make sure you take down the directions from the website as some GPS don’t initially recognize the GPS address given.

The actors in this haunt can touch you. If you do not wish to be touched they offer an option for a glow in the dark necklace so the actors know not to touch you. Even though the four events are continuous, there are always ways to exit early if you need to. Also of important note, there are porta-johns located at each Segway which is extremely helpful for all ages. As an educated guess, not including wait times, I enjoyed at least two hours of horrific fun.

The Green Inferno (2015) Review

THE GREEN INFERNO: Eli Roth’s Green Inferno makes horror oh, so beautiful.

Let’s start this review with what you want to know about this film. The Green Inferno is about a group of slightly self-righteous college activists who aim to save an indigenous tribe of Peruvians from destruction in the name of finding natural gas. Along the way, the misguided advocates go down in a plane only to be consumed by the jungle and perhaps its inhabitants. Those of you who have not lived in a vacuum for the past decade know that Eli Roth is most recognized for his torture-porn style and extreme gore. I know that Mr. Roth has been quoted saying that he considers it a good thing if his audience has to run screaming from the theater. He wants to evoke a visceral reaction from his audience even if it means they only see the film in pieces as they peek through their fingers, but that’s not quite the case here.
